The origins of Fanta

Avid IamExpat readers might already know that Fanta originated in Germany, as one of our “Most Googled” articles tackled the question of whether Hitler was a fan of the orange carbonated beverage. While, in lieu of a photograph or any solid evidence, we cannot say for sure whether Hitler ever enjoyed a cold glass of Fanta, we do know it was developed by Coca-Cola Deutschland in 1940 as a substitute for Coke. This was because the US placed a trade embargo on Germany, making it hard to import the Coca-Cola syrup to the country.
