DoKomi Anime Convention
DoKomi is an annual anime convention in Düsseldorf. This two-day fan convention features Japanese movies, video games, characters and merchandise. In recent years, before the coronavirus pandemic, the festival welcomed 45.000 visitors each year. This year will see a pandemic-proof version with fewer attendees, to allow health and safety to be taken carefully into consideration.
It is the biggest and most popular anime event in Germany. Since Düsseldorf has one of the largest Japanese communities in Europe, a festival of this type and size seems only natural.
Celebrating Japanese pop culture in Düsseldorf
For two days in June, DoKomi brings you an impressive variety of activities that set it apart from other conventions of its kind! Celebrating the promotion of Japanese pop culture, or J-Pop, it is the second-largest Japan-related event in Germany after Japan Day.
So many events to choose from at DoKomi
You will not have a chance to get bored at DoKomi, as there is typically karaoke, talks, workshops, lectures, concerts, speed dating, a pub quiz, an animation workshop for aspiring anime artists and even prop-making! Keep an eye on the DoKomi website to see which events are going ahead.
Costumes and cosplay at DoKomi
There will be all sorts of activities centred around costumes, whether you buy, borrow or make costumes yourself. You can also get tips on how to pose better for photos, to bring out the best of your costume, and how to take better portraits with limited time.
Cosplay Ball
The term “cosplay” originated in Japan in the 1980s, inspired by conventions like this one. The special costume party, the Cosplay Ball, is one of the highlights of DoKomi and the theme for the evening this year is “In a galaxy far, far away.“ It takes place on Saturday.
J-Rave
Party like there’s no tomorrow with fantastic electro-pop DJs who’ll be spinning Japanese rave music on Saturday. Note that this event takes place at the same time as the Cosplay Ball, so visitors will have to choose wisely between the two!
DoKomi opening times

- Sunday, June 5: 10am - 6pm
