Festival of Magicians & Witches
On the last Saturday of October, the streets in the city centre of Mayen will be crawling with all types of creepy creatures and ghouls as the annual Festival der Magier und Hexen (Festival of Magicians and Witches) takes place. This traditional festival offers everything you could look for in a Halloween celebration, from pumpkin carving to costume competitions - with plenty of German food and German beer, of course!
A party for witches and magicians of all ages
A Halloween street party for the entire family, the Festival of Magicians and Witches has plenty of fun activities for big and small. One of the main highlights of the spooky festival is the traditional pumpkin carving competition at Brückenstrasse. All participants receive a creepy surprise at the end, so be sure to drop by!
An eerie and creepy circus, knight’s market and funfair rides fill the streets of Mayen, where jugglers, witches, artists and more will keep you entertained all day.
Adults and children are encouraged to dress the part no matter the weather, as at the end of the festival the most beautiful and scary costumes will be selected and awarded a prize!
Halloween festivities and activities for all in Mayen
Over at the Genovevaburg, one of the many castles in Germany and a must-see attraction, several witch and magician courses for children will take place throughout the day, together with scary lectures and workshops on folklore and superstitions.
Magic workshops for the little ones and young adults will also be held at the Old Town Hall (please note that participants must reserve their places in advance). They will be followed by a magic show that is sure to excite and inspire, and maybe even scare you a little.
