For spectators, there is plenty of entertainment along the route, as well as at the start and finish line. That’s why the Hamburg Marathon is a day out for everyone, and not just the athletes taking part!

One of the most scenic running courses imaginable

The Hamburg Marathon is as much a sight-seeing tour as it is a running race! The course wanders through Hamburg’s main highlights, and in a city like Hamburg, the highlights are many.

It begins at 9.30 am by Hamburg Messe. Athletes run along the Reeperbahn to Altona then along the Elbchausee to the Harbour, where you can see spectacular buildings like the Elbphilharmonie concert hall.

The runners then move out to the green areas of the city towards the Stadtpark. The last section of the running course brings participants through Alsterdorf and Ohlsdorf.

Tens of thousands of spectators gather to cheer on the runners from the “Witch's Cauldron" on Eppendorfer Baum. After running along the west bank of the Alster, the racers follow the route via Dammator towards the finish.
