Lesbian and Gay City Festival Berlin
The Lesbian and Gay City Festival (Lesbisch-Schwules Stadtfest) in Berlin is hailed as the largest street party dedicated to the LGBTQI+ community in Europe.
Taking place annually around Nollendorfplatz, the well-established LGBTQI+ stronghold in Schöneberg since 1993, the festival is often referred to as the Motzstraßenfestival, as the Motzstraße is known for its high concentration of gay bars.
The biggest Lesbian and Gay festival in Europe
As the largest festival of its kind in Europe, more than 350.000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s event, so expect vibrant, busy and colourful crowds. The open-air festival will feature an extensive entertainment programme across five stages, playing different types of music throughout the weekend, as well as its celebrated celebrity talk show “Das wilde Sofa” (the wild sofa). Dozens of market stands will also offer local dishes, drinks and information on the LGBTQI+ community and culture.
Equal Rights for the Unequal at the Lesbian and Gay City Festival
The motto for the 30th edition of the Lesbian and Gay City Festival is “Equal Rights for the Unequal.” Through its motto, event organisers Regenbogenfonds e.V. aim to highlight the community’s continued push for equal rights.
Six different themes will be covered during the festival, including the World of Radio, World of Film, World of Politics, World of Wellness and Health, World of Sports and Positive World. A wide range of LGBTQI+ organisations will have a number of stalls set up throughout the area offering information and support.
Next to Berlin Pride and the Christopher Street Day parade, the Lesbian and Gay City Festival is the biggest event for the LGBTQI + community in the city.
