A classic stage production at the English Theatre Frankfurt
The English Theatre Frankfurt production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest reverses the gender roles of the two main characters, creating a new dynamic on stage. The story focuses on McMurphy, a fun-loving trickster with a number of assault convictions to her name. After getting into trouble once more, she is sentenced to labour duties in prison.
But to avoid work, she pleads insanity and is set to a mental asylum instead. There the tyrannical Nurse Ratched rules his psychiatric ward with an iron fist, controlling his patients through abuse, medication and the threat of electric shock therapy. McMurphy’s arrival challenges his regime and she opposes his rules on behalf of her inmates, leading to a battle of wills between the two which questions the boundaries between sanity and insanity.
