By William Nehra

If you are a native English speaker, you might be in for a bit of a surprise when you visit Germany. Many Germans use certain English words in the wrong situations, which can be particularly confusing - and amusing - for expats.

English: the German way

There are plenty of English words that people living in Germany use the wrong way. For example, did you know that Germans refer to their mobile phone as their "Handy"? There are plenty of different examples of these misused English words, and they can often be the source of humour and confusion for those who don’t speak German.

Luckily, the following video explains how Germans use some of these English words, so you won’t look too perplexed (or scared!) when a German invites you to go to a “public viewing.”

Which English words have you heard German people use in strange situations? Which is the funniest? Let us know in the comments below!
