THE ROLE & THE TEAM
Zalando fulfills more than a hundred million customer orders every year and volumes are increasing. Fulfillment Core within Zalando builds and operates systems that are at the core of Zalando’s platform strategy and ensure timely, efficient, and correct delivery of every one of our customers’ 185+ million orders every year.
At Zalando and in Fulfillment Core, we are committed to providing equal opportunities for career advancement and promotions to all employees, following our inclusiveness principles. We welcome applications for both full-time and part-time positions, as we believe in providing flexible work options to support our employees' diverse needs.
As a Principal Product Designer in our Fulfilment Product Design team, you will take a leading role in shaping the user experience of key strategic initiatives that sit at the heart of Zalando’s logistics strategy. A major part of your work will focus on how we present delivery options to customers—balancing speed, convenience, sustainability, and cost—and how we calculate and communicate shipping fees. These are high-impact experiences with direct influence on both customer satisfaction and operational performance.
Beyond this, you will drive the UX vision across Fulfilment Core, which powers not only customer-facing journeys but also complex internal tools used by partners and Zalando teams. You will collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and engineers to ensure our products are intuitive, inclusive, and scalable. In this senior role, you’ll champion design excellence, mentor others, and help shape the future of fulfillment at Zalando.
You’ll find our Berlin campus and HQ in the vibrant area of Friedrichshain. With amazing views of the Spree river and East Side Gallery, it’s a campus designed to inspire. Berlin is the city that has shaped our business. Are you up for a new experience in one of the most vibrant, diverse, and green cities in Europe?
INCLUSIVE BY DESIGN
At Zalando, our vision is to be the leading pan-European ecosystem for fashion and lifestyle e-commerce - one that is inclusive by design. We only assess candidates based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. We welcome applications from people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, personal expressions, racial identities, ethnicities, religious beliefs, and disability statuses. We only want to know why you’re great for this role, so please avoid including your picture, age, and marital status in your CV as well.
We want to provide you with a great candidate experience. Please feel free to inform us of any accommodations you may need, so we can best support and assist you throughout the hiring process.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
As a Principal Product Designer in Fulfillment Core, you will be at the forefront of shaping user experiences that are critical to Zalando's success. You'll have the opportunity to:
Shape UX Vision and Strategy: You will contribute to developing and articulating a cohesive UX vision for Fulfillment Core’s suite of products. Working with your team, you’ll help align this vision with our Logistics strategy, contributing to our shared business goals and making the vision tangible for everyone involved.
Promote User-Centricity through Research: You will help champion and conduct comprehensive user research (mostly qualitative) to build deep empathy and uncover user needs. You’ll collaborate on validating design solutions and translating findings into actionable insights that inform our collective product strategy.
Engage and Collaborate: You will work in close partnership with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, other Designers, and senior stakeholders. Together, you’ll explore complex problem spaces, sometimes in uncharted territory, and encourage teams to achieve shared positive outcomes.
Develop Impactful Solutions: You will design and map out holistic, customer journeys across various touchpoints (e.g., product display pages to post-checkout), including scoping and defining design deliverables. The aim is to create solutions that are inspiring, address real customer needs, are technically feasible, and contribute to our long-term shared strategic objectives.
Nurture our Design Community: You will contribute to our vibrant design culture by sharing knowledge, participating in critiques, and potentially co-leading design operations initiatives that improve team effectiveness and inclusivity.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
We are looking for an experienced designer who is passionate about solving complex challenges and creating meaningful user experiences. We value potential and a growth mindset.
You bring extensive experience in contributing to UX vision and strategy for complex product ecosystems, perhaps in logistics, e-commerce, or similar areas. You enjoy translating high-level business goals into tangible design approaches collaboratively.
You have a thorough understanding of, and practical experience in applying, diverse qualitative user research methods. You also have a good understanding of quantitative approaches and enjoy using these skills to help shape product direction through actionable insights.
You are adept at the end-to-end design process, including conceptualisation, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and creating user interfaces in Figma. We'd be interested to hear about your practical experience, for example, in designing complex user funnels, perhaps in retail.
You are practised in applying systems thinking and/or service design principles to understand and shape interconnected experiences and complex operational processes.
You enjoy communicating and can articulate design decisions and complex ideas clearly to various audiences, including senior leadership. You find satisfaction in building consensus and encouraging action through your communication.
You show a dedication to high-quality craft in your work and are keen to support other designers through mentorship, contributing to the team's collective growth in design quality.
You are acquainted with Design Systems and understand their role in product development. Experience contributing to them is a plus and welcomed.
