Junior Software Engineer (all genders)

Role: Junior Backend Engineer for Zalando Payments. You will design, develop, test, and operate core APIs that allow customers to pay securely. The role involves building services that steer payment processes and interface with merchant systems, ensuring compliance with fintech industry standards. About Zalando Payments: Positioned at the intersection of eCommerce and FinTech, Zalando Payments builds technologies for all financial transactions in the Zalando fashion store and other consumer-facing apps, delivering a flawless user experience in checkout and backend payment processing. Responsibilities: - Create highly scalable solutions and own the entire application lifecycle, from design to implementation, testing, and operation in production. - Maintain high standards for continuous integration, code quality, code reviews, and test-driven development. - Own your code and decide on technologies and tools to deliver and operate large-scale applications on cloud (AWS) using a microservices architecture. - Share knowledge with colleagues to help them grow their technical skills. Qualifications: - Degree in computer science or related field, or experienced IT Specialist. - Interest in building and operating production services; experience in e-commerce or payments is a plus. - Willingness to actively learn new technologies and practices. - Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with peers and across team boundaries. - Strong problem-solving skills with a logical and pragmatic attitude. - Familiarity with Java ecosystem and frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot), microservice architecture, REST services, and asynchronous distributed systems is ideal.
