Principal Frontend Engineer - ZEOS Portal (all genders)

Role: The B2B Platform department is the core engine enabling our partners to seamlessly integrate and scale within the Zalando ecosystem. By unifying complex business services under a high‑performance platform umbrella, we provide a holistic API‑first environment that empowers partners to grow their business with speed and flexibility. As a Principal Frontend Engineer, you will be a key architect of the common platform and ecosystem that powers both partner‑facing and internal products, shaping the technical landscape that allows diverse B2B solutions to interact, scale, and thrive. Responsibilities: - Architect scalable ecosystems: design and drive the technical vision for high‑traffic customer portals and internal tools using React, TypeScript, and Node.js. - Master modular landscapes: guide the transition and optimization of Micro Frontend (MFE) and SPA architectures, ensuring seamless integration across the ZEOS partner landscape. - Bridge business & technical needs: translate complex business opportunities into solution designs that are scalable, cost‑efficient, and compliant with industry standards. - Support infrastructure & security: guide deployment strategies within AWS and Kubernetes environments, ensuring robust web security through Okta/OpenID and proxy/gateway configurations. - Foster technical excellence: act as a core member of the Principal Community, driving cross‑area architectural consistency and elevating development processes through CI/CD, high test coverage, and design system maturity. - Align & empower delivery: support multi‑disciplinary teams (engineers, designers, PMs) and manage high‑level stakeholders to ensure project alignment and technical integrity. Qualifications: - 3+ years experience as a Principal Engineer or Solutions Architect, leading complex multi‑team projects in cloud environments. - Expert‑level knowledge of the modern web stack (React, TypeScript, Webpack) and deep experience with Micro Frontends at scale. - Strong understanding of AWS, Kubernetes, networking fundamentals, reverse‑proxies and API gateways. - Practical experience implementing modern authentication flows (OpenID/Okta) and securing applications against web vulnerabilities. - Agile champion: ownership of the full development lifecycle from discovery to CI/CD deployment and automated testing. - Excellent communication and mentoring skills, able to translate technical concepts for stakeholders and guide senior engineers. - Balanced practitioner: capable of high‑level system thinking and hands‑on problem solving when needed.
