Role The Marketing Science team drives Zalando’s growth by partnering across the marketing funnel. As a Senior Applied Scientist you will own the Brand Measurement scientific roadmap, designing advanced experimentation frameworks, developing Marketing Mix Models, and influencing marketing investment decisions. Responsibilities - Design and implement advanced, non‑linearly scaled experimentation frameworks (e.g., quasi‑experiments, synthetic controls) to measure causal impact of brand marketing. - Develop, calibrate, and scale sophisticated Marketing Mix Models (MMM) to provide strategic investment recommendations. - Influence Zalando’s marketing investment allocation, ensuring accurate attribution across the funnel. - Collaborate with product managers, engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to refine the marketing engine. - Champion MLOps best practices, ensuring models are production‑ready and well‑documented. - Mentor junior and mid‑level scientists, conduct code and methodology reviews, and foster a culture of scientific excellence. Qualifications - Strong academic foundation (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Econometrics, Statistics, Machine Learning, or Causal Inference. - At least 5 years of industry experience in marketing science or measurement. - Proven experience building, deploying, and maintaining Marketing Mix Models and deep understanding of adstock transformations, saturation curves, and Bayesian priors. - Proficiency in Python, SQL, and PySpark with high coding standards. - Experience designing measurement frameworks in high‑ambiguity environments (e.g., ATT, cookieless). - Demonstrated ability to mentor and upskill junior data scientists. - Excellent communication and negotiation skills to align with performance marketing, brand marketing, and finance leaders.
