Senior Applied Scientist - Demand Forecast (all genders)

Role: Senior Applied Scientist in the Partner Tech Applied Science team, focusing on demand forecast solutions and collaborating with product managers, engineers, and analysts to refine Zalando’s article demand forecast engine. Responsibilities: - Conceptualize, prototype, and productionize state-of-the-art demand forecast solutions. - Communicate technical problems and results effectively to team members and non‑technical stakeholders. - Own the full development cycle of algorithms, from opportunity discovery to production. - Iteratively improve models and explore new data sources and problem formulations. - Build model pipelines and streamline analysis using Python, R, Scala, SQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc. - Mentor junior scientists and foster a culture of continuous learning. Qualifications: Required: - PhD in statistics, mathematics, physics, operations research or a related quantitative discipline with strong foundations in statistics, time‑series analysis and machine learning for forecasting. - Minimum 3 years of industry experience developing forecasting models with statistical and machine‑learning techniques. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a self‑starter mindset. - Deep proficiency in Python, SQL and PySpark, with high coding standards and active participation in code reviews. Preferred: - Demonstrated leadership experience guiding less experienced colleagues.
