THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a Backend Engineer, you will be delivering a direct impact to more than 50 million Zalando customers in 25 countries and growing. You will be building systems that will solve major customer challenges around Sports & Beauty in fashion & lifestyle e-commerce and build systems to take customer experience to the next level.


In the Customer Engagement team we aim to understand customer needs and interests through proposition-specific profiles (e.g. Beauty & Sports Profile) and Zalando Fashion Assistant (ZFA) and increase customer relevancy in product presentation and recommendations.

WHAT WE 27D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • Be a part of an agile, experienced cross-functional engineering team to build systems for Sports & Beauty Propositions with a major focus on serving capabilities for our clients.

  • Design, build and maintain large-scale backend microservices using technologies such as Java / Scala, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and Kubernetes.

  • Decide on the technologies and tools to deliver and operate scalable microservice-based applications on AWS.

  • Ensure a state-of-the-art software development methodology.

  • Interact with various teams and stakeholders with different backgrounds and with a large spectrum of competencies.

  • Share your knowledge with your colleagues helping them to grow their technical skills.

  • Help us become better, provide active feedback, mentor and support the development of more junior colleagues.


WE 27D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

  • You have 5+ years of professional experience software development experience

  • You are experienced in designing large-scale resilient distributed microservices on a cloud infrastructure (preferably Kubernetes and AWS)

  • You are experienced with JVM-based languages (Java, Scala) and NodeJS (TypeScript).

  • You are experienced with REST APIs design and event-driven architectures.

  • You have experience scaling Database systems (SQL or no-SQL).

  • You advocate for agile processes, operational excellence, and coding best practices such as clean code, readability, and test-driven development.

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, experience in writing technical documentation.

  • You have experience in collaboration with engineering teams, managers, and product stakeholders from different backgrounds.

  • You have strong analytical skills.
