Senior Backend Engineer - ZEOS (all genders)

Role: The B2B Platform is a high‑performance engine that enables partners to integrate into the Zalando ecosystem. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will be a key architect of services powering partner‑facing products and internal tools, transforming complex business requirements into a scalable, API‑first platform. Responsibilities: - Engineer scalable backend systems: design, develop and evolve high‑performance microservices using Java and Spring Boot. - Design intuitive, clear RESTful APIs for developers. - Own the full lifecycle of code from design and Gradle builds to deployment and 24/7 operational health. - Master cloud infrastructure on AWS and Kubernetes to build resilient, compliant systems. - Drive engineering standards through testing, code reviews and modern tooling. - Collaborate across the stack, supporting frontend teams and full‑stack initiatives. - Mentor peers and guide the ZEOS community. Qualifications: - Extensive experience as a Java developer with deep expertise in Spring Boot and the modern JVM ecosystem. - Proven architect of microservice and distributed system designs and versioned REST APIs. - Proficient in deploying and operating applications on AWS and Kubernetes. - Strong skills in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and observability. - Comfortable working in agile environments and taking ownership of complex topics. - Excellent English communication skills, able to translate technical complexity for engineers and stakeholders. - Interest in full‑stack development and collaboration with frontend teams.
