Senior Backend Engineer - ZEOS (all genders)

Role: The B2B Platform is the high-performance engine that allows partners to integrate into the Zalando ecosystem. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a key architect of services powering our partner-facing products and internal operational tools. The mission is to transform complex business requirements into a scalable, API-first platform. You will lead the development of mission-critical microservices, ensuring they are resilient, secure, and cost-efficient, working within an agile cross-functional team. Seniority involves a holistic view of the system landscape, mentoring peers, and driving technical alignment. Responsibilities: - Engineer scalable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot. - Design intuitive RESTful APIs. - Own the full lifecycle ("You Write It, You Run It"), from design and build to deployment and 24/7 operational health. - Master cloud infrastructure (AWS and Kubernetes). - Drive engineering standards through rigorous testing, code reviews, and modern tools such as Jackson. - Collaborate across the stack, including frontend teams and fullstack contexts. - Mentor and guide peers across the ZEOS community. Qualifications: - Seasoned Java developer with deep expertise in Spring Boot and modern JVM ecosystem (including Gradle). - Experienced in microservice architectures, distributed systems, and versioned REST APIs. - Proficient in AWS and Kubernetes. - Skilled in building CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability. - Thrive in agile environments, taking ownership of complex topics from discovery to production. - Excellent English communication skills, able to translate technical complexity. - Interest in fullstack and frontend consumption of services.
