Senior Machine Learning Scientist / Data Engineer - Logistics Algorithms (all genders)

Role As a Senior Machine Learning Scientist / Data Engineer you will drive algorithmic research‑driven software development within Zalando’s logistics team, improving warehouse scheduling, planning and routing through predictive models and stochastic optimization. Responsibilities - Research, design, and implement algorithms and predictive models for logistics. - Deliver end‑to‑end solutions, covering research, prototyping, production implementation, testing and operation of highly available systems. - Influence research and development methodologies to build scalable, data‑driven architecture. - Support and coach other Applied Scientists by sharing knowledge and expertise. Qualifications - Master’s or PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a quantitative field. - Minimum 6 years of applied research experience with algorithm‑related software development (Java, Kotlin, Python, etc.). - Hands‑on experience with microservice architecture and distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark, Databricks). - Strong understanding of advanced algorithmic techniques (combinatorics, graph theory), mathematical modeling (operations research, statistics), and machine learning approaches (forecasting, Bayesian networks). - Ability to work autonomously, translate business cases into mathematical problems, and collaborate in agile, cross‑functional teams.
