You will work alongside Software Engineers and Product Managers to implement new features, evolve the microservice landscape and take ownership of the full service lifecycle—from writing Java code to monitoring and operating applications in the cloud.
Responsibilities
- Develop robust, scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and implement clean RESTful APIs for internal tools and customer portals.
- Own the full development cycle: design, test, and deploy features with Gradle and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure operational health by deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting services on AWS and Kubernetes.
- Participate in code reviews, team ceremonies and provide feedback to maintain high code quality.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers and consider end‑to‑end product experience.

- Experience building event‑driven microservices and working with streaming platforms such as Nakadi or Apache Kafka.
- Practical knowledge of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, and ability to design efficient schemas and queries.
- Familiarity with microservice architectures, REST APIs and data handling (e.g., Jackson).
- Proven track record of delivering stable features in an agile environment and taking ownership from discovery to delivery.
- Comfortable with build tools like Gradle and interested in automated testing and CI/CD workflows.
- Ready to work with AWS and Kubernetes and embrace a “You Write It, You Run It” mindset.
- Strong English communication skills and ability to collaborate in a diverse, international team.
- Proactive, customer‑centric attitude and willingness to drive continuous improvement.
What We Offer
- 27 days of holiday per year (increasing up to 30 days with tenure).
- 2 paid volunteering days per year and employee share programme.
- 40% discount on Zalando fashion and beauty products, plus additional partner discounts.
- Relocation assistance (subject to agreement).
- Family services, health and wellbeing options, mental health support and coaching.
