THE ROLE & THE TEAM

Zalando's Performance Marketing department is creating and deepening relationships with consumers outside of Zalando premises by showcasing our digital ads. We’re marketing Zalando’s flawless choice, our best in fashion inspiration and the shopping convenience our customers love. We use the latest technology to make our ads relevant and engaging to consumers while fully respecting customer privacy.

Our Applied Science team for Performance Marketing works closely with product management, engineering, and analytics to enhance our industry-leading performance marketing engine. Our focus crosses multiple areas starting from creating a rigorous experimentation and measurement framework that is the ground truth for measuring performance marketing effectiveness in Zalando, building Attribution Models across channels to understand their impact on key business metrics, enable effective steering of external advertising platforms based on set objectives, to planning Zalando's marketing presence optimally based on business objectives set by Markets Leadership

As an Applied Scientist in this role, you'll play a crucial part in maximising the efficiency of our substantial marketing budget across major advertising platforms. Your expertise will be instrumental in continuously assessing and attributing the incremental return on every Euro spent and ensuring that our marketing investments are strategically allocated for optimal results.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Proven track record of independently tackling concrete research problems and autonomously finding a path to a simple and fast solution, before iteration.

• Have worked extensively on Machine Learning and Optimization related problems.

• Advanced coding skills in Python as well as experience with common big data processing and manipulation tools such as PySpark and SQL

• MLops experience: Deploying models to production, writing unit/integration tests, and documentation.

• Experience in supervising more junior colleagues, as well as organising learning.

• Good communication skills to translate (even complex) analytical / engineering decisions and outcomes to both peers and a broader, non-technical audience.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Strong academic background in machine learning, or artificial intelligence, accompanied by 2+ years of industry experience.

• Proven track record of independently tackling concrete research problems and autonomously finding a path to a simple and fast solution, before iteration.

• Strong Experience in Economics and A/B Testing is a plus.

• Advanced coding skills in Python as well as experience with common big data processing and manipulation tools such as PySpark and SQL. Experience in reviewing the code of others and improving the coding culture within a team.

• Experience in supervising more junior colleagues, as well as organising learning.

• Good communication skills to translate (even complex) analytical / engineering decisions and outcomes to both peers and a broader, non-technical audience.
