Germans unhappy with EU’s vaccine programme and want to end lockdown

By William Nehra

A recent poll has revealed that just over half of the German population believes that the EU hasn’t handled its coronavirus vaccination programme well. A separate poll has found that the majority of Germans want lockdown restrictions to be eased even further.

Germans think EU could do better

A poll by Kekst CNC has revealed that just over half of people in Germany feel that the EU’s handling of its vaccine programme has left a lot to be desired. 51 percent of respondents in Germany feel that EU institutions haven’t done a good enough job of acquiring vaccination doses. According to the report, “more people now disapprove of the EU than approve of its pandemic response for the first time" in Germany.

The poll also found that 46 percent of Germans believe that the federal government has also handled the vaccine rollout poorly.

Majority of Germans want restrictions lifted

A separate poll, this one commissioned by the DPA news agency and undertaken by YouGov, has shown that most people in Germany want the restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus to be lifted to some extent. 43 percent of respondents wanted lockdown restrictions to be eased further, while 17 percent called for all restrictions to be lifted.

On the other hand, only around a third of respondents wanted the current restrictions to remain in place and just under 10 percent of respondents called for further restrictions to be put in place.
