Angela Merkel has been Chancellor of Germany for just over 15 years, an incredible amount of time for any leader.
Merkel’s 15 years in power
Angela Merkel assumed the office of Chancellor of Germany on November 22, 2005. For 15 years she has guided Germany, winning four general elections, leading the country through the financial crisis of 2008, committing to the closure of Germany’s nuclear power plants, and even overseeing Germany’s World Cup win in 2014.
