Week-long Ringbahn closure disrupts commuters in south Berlin

Commuters in south Berlin are facing a week of travel disruption as a key section of the Ringbahn shuts down for maintenance work. S-Bahn services between Tempelhof and Hermannstraße are completely suspended from August 3 to August 10.

According to an announcement on the S-Bahn website, the interruption affects both directions of the Ringbahn (lines S41 and S42) alongside southern routes S46 and S47.

The week-long closure is due to essential infrastructure maintenance carried out by DB InfraGo, the infrastructure subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. Engineering teams are upgrading the S4 South train control system, laying new cables, and renewing both level crossings and tracks.

How to get around the S-Bahn closure

To keep passengers moving, a replacement bus service (Schienenersatzverkehr) using accessible vehicles is operating between Tempelhof and Hermannstraße for the duration of the works.

Passengers travelling over the weekend can also use the temporary shuttle train service, which will run between Südkreuz and Tempelhof every 10 to 15 minutes from Friday, August 7 to the morning of Monday, August 10.

Commuters should allow extra time for their journeys and check official public transport apps for real-time schedule updates while the construction work is underway.
