Bachelor/Master Thesis Student (f/m/d) - Refactoring of the Data Processing Microservice
About this role
We help the world run better. At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we\'ll bring out the best in you. We\'re builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what\'s next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You\'ll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What\'s in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.
What you’ll build
A microservice for unattended system maintenance of ERP systems requires ground‑through redesign. In the target architecture the redesigned microservice needs to be modular, easy to extend and test, while staying performant and resilient.
You will be researching the current architecture of the service, working out the redesign proposal, implementing it in the software and operationalizing it (bringing it into production).
What you bring
- Student (f/m/d) at a university or a university of applied sciences
- Preferred fields of study: computer science, business informatics or similar
Required computer skills and competencies
- Experience in building and operating distributed data processing pipelines on hyperscaler platforms
- Experience in system analysis, particularly in scalability, resilience and extensibility evaluation
- Experience working with formally defined data structures (e.g., JSON Schema) and formally described APIs (e.g., OpenAPI)
- Experience in communicating architecture concepts using UML or Technical Architecture Modeling (TAM)
- Proficiency in Python
Language skills: fluent written spoken English is required
Soft skills:
You are curious and analytical, able to dig deep into complex systems and understand how things work beneath the surface. You strive for elegance and precision in software design and enjoy communicating your ideas clearly with others. You approach challenges with a researcher’s mindset — exploring, discovering, and continuously learning.
Other important skills/experience:
- Familiarity with CI/CD management using GitHub Actions
- Familiarity with identity and access management (IAM) concepts on hyperscaler platforms
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other comparable hyperscalers (e.g., AWS, Azure)
Working from Walldorf office is required on recurring sync events (bi‑weekly).
Where you belong
Downtime during an upgrade is a major concern for SAP customers. SAP aims to minimize disruption during system maintenance. Our analytical reports, data services and applications help not only internal teams to understand usage patterns, but also SAP customers to maintain their systems efficiently.
Our team is dynamic, helpful, and welcoming to learners. You will work directly with external and internal customers and be a full team member from day one.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to dive into big data, develop your skills, and make a meaningful impact within a supportive team.
Your set of application documents should contain a cover letter, a resume in table form, school leaving certificates, certificate of enrollment, current university transcript of records, copies of any academic degrees already earned, and if available, references from former employers (including internships). Please also describe your experience and skills in foreign languages and computer programs / programming languages.
This is a SAP global, strategic, paid working student position that provides students with opportunities to find purpose in their careers.
