About this role

I’m currently supporting a well-established, fast-growing energy storage developer in Germany that is expanding its project development team in Munich. The business develops and delivers large-scale battery energy storage projects and plays an active role in supporting grid stability and the wider energy transition across Europe.

They are looking to appoint a Senior Project Development Lead to take ownership of utility-scale BESS projects through the full development lifecycle, with a particular focus on grid connection, permitting, and cable routing. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys leading complex projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and driving projects through to readiness for construction and asset handover.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the full development phase of multiple large-scale BESS projects, from early-stage development through to handover to asset management
  • Manage grid connection processes, working closely with Transmission System Operators (TSOs)
  • Oversee permitting strategies and ensure timely submission and approval of all required permits at municipal and district level
  • Coordinate preliminary engineering, including site layout and cable route design
  • Manage external advisors and stakeholders, including authorities, landowners, consultants, and community stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams such as origination, procurement, and financing to ensure smooth project progression

Candidate profile:

  • 10+ years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior project development or project management role within renewable energy, energy infrastructure, utilities, real estate, or comparable large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Strong hands-on experience with permitting, grid connection, and cable routing, ideally within the German regulatory environment
  • Proven track record of developing projects through to handover, with a solid understanding of regulatory, environmental, and social considerations
  • Experience leading project teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders across complex project environments
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively with authorities, consultants, and internal teams
  • Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (every 2–3 weeks for a few days)

What’s on offer:

  • Competitive salary package with performance-related components
  • A key role within an entrepreneurial, impact-driven energy business
  • Flat hierarchies, autonomy, and strong exposure to decision-making
  • Flexible working model with home office options
  • Generous holiday allowance and modern working equipment
  • Additional benefits such as wellbeing programs and international team events
