Risk Engineer (m/f/d) Alternative Energy (Wind/Solar) Power Generation


We have an exciting opportunity to work within our Zurich Risk Solutions business as a Risk Engineer (m/f/d). This new role will be solely focussed on the Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage segments of the Alternative Energy power industry. While you will be joining a sizeable world-class team of risk engineers, licensed to perform power generation consulting, you will be responsible for building out Zurich’s global technical capabilities in these industries. Core responsibilities of the role include:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM’s)
  • Using personal kledge, industry data, and OEM relationships to stay abreast of equipment hazards in these focus industries
  • Maintaining / updating equipment databases for use by field engineers and Underwriters.
  • Ensuring that all Risk Engineering is technically and commercially viable and that first-class customer service is achieved via supporting the training of field engineers, as well as ensuring that all Risk Engineering policies and standards for these areas of focus are defined and implemented
  • You will be part of a team who act as an experienced resource to Zurich’s internal Underwriting and Claims teams, Customers and our Global Risk Engineering Network on Alternative Energy power generation related Property, Construction, Machinery Breakdown and Liability issues

What you will do

In addition to the core responsibilities of the role as defined above, this role will also share some of the basic accountabilities of a Risk Engineer, which include:

  • Assessing Risk Quality and Quantum, for Property Damage and Business Interruption and/or Liability in order to assist Underwriters in Risk Selection. This will generally be prior to attachment or at renewal, following losses or for new projects
  • Carrying out Risk Engineering Surveys of alternative energy power generating facilities. Furnishing underwriters and / or the market with Risk Engineering Reports and the customer with Risk Improvement Recommendations
  • Initiating Risk Engineering programmes with key clients
  • Advising underwriters on Engineering Risk Issues
  • To support claims validation and investigation processes
  • To provide thought leadership and technical insight into risk features of related industries, including lessons from losses
  • Be fully conversant with the Zurich Risk Engineering proposition, identify and consult with customers and brokers where opportunities exist to generate additional revenue from the provision of additional value add service

What you will bring

Successful applicants will need to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • Fluent language skills in German (min. B2 Level) and English
  • minimum requirement Bachelors Degree preferred Master Degree in Engineering related subjects
  • Proven power generation industry experience in the Alternative Energy sector
  • Expertise in the wind and solar power generation industry, as well as the economics of the industry
  • The ideal candidate for this role will have significant Alternative Energy industry experience in one or more areas of manufacturing / design, construction, operations or maintenance within the wind and/or solar industries
  • Ideally insurance kledge e.g. risk management programmes, estimated maximum loss concepts and analysis etc.
  • Ability to promptly research a technical issue, using technical references/contact
