Engineering Manager (all genders)

Role: Engineering Manager (all genders) Team: Lead a team of ~10 software engineers owning Zalando's Observability platform, which supports hundreds of engineering teams. The team builds a consolidated, high-quality telemetry stack to enable agentic incident response. Responsibilities: - Lead consolidation of observability tooling onto Dash0 as unified platform for metrics, traces, logs, and SLOs; transition incident management off OpsGenie to a modern, AI-integrated platform. - Shape and execute roadmap for Observability SDKs, elevating them to a first-class company-wide product with automated upgrade tooling and instrumentation quality standards. - Own long-term architectural roadmap, hold design reviews, and act as accountable decision-maker for technical quality and delivery feasibility. - Drive contribution to agentic incident response, ensuring signal quality, SLO definitions, and platform architecture are ready for automated RCA. - Be accountable for reliable operation of production systems: define, measure, improve SLOs; drive incident response and post-mortem follow-through; manage infrastructure costs. - Attract, hire, develop, and retain diverse engineering talent; manage performance fairly, maintain team health, and coach engineers on career development. Qualifications: - Experience managing engineering teams in infrastructure, platform, or developer tooling domain. - Strong background in distributed systems, observability, or reliability engineering; comfortable with OpenTelemetry, metrics pipelines, distributed tracing, SLOs, and incident response workflows. - Hands-on technical leadership: can spot technical and security risks in design reviews, evaluate delivery feasibility, and provide substantive architecture guidance. - Experience driving large-scale platform migrations across many teams, using automation or AI tooling to make adoption tractable. - Concrete view of agentic incident response and what is needed for reliable automated RCA. - Experience leading teams through transitions in scope, direction, or org structure.
