Full Stack Engineer Kotlin & React (Maternity Cover) / Lounge by Zalando (all genders)

Role: Full Stack Engineer (Kotlin & React) - Maternity Cover, 12 months fixed term, at Lounge by Zalando. Team: The Growth & Lifecycle team is the growth engine of Lounge, building services that communicate compelling offers to millions of users daily. Your focus will be the Kotlin Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) and its React frontend, composing personalised, dynamic landing pages that turn marketing traffic into registered, active members. Responsibilities: - Build and ship features across the Kotlin Backend-for-Frontend and React frontend, delivering working, testable, maintainable code to production in small, safe iterations. - Work across the stack: contribute to backend composition logic and frontend experience of automated, personalised landing pages. - Collaborate end to end with frontend and backend engineers, product manager, and designers to turn requirements into shipped user experiences. - Contribute to marketing automation: implement personalisation, targeting, and A/B testing features. - Operate what you build: deploy and run services in a cloud-first environment (AWS), supported by team tooling and on-call practices. - Grow your craft: take feedback in code and design reviews, share learnings, and expand your toolkit. Qualifications: - Solid full-stack experience: 2–4 years of professional software engineering, building backend services (ideally Kotlin, or Java/JVM with interest in Kotlin) and modern frontends with React. - Frontend fundamentals: hands-on experience with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem (ES6, bundlers like Webpack/Vite, CSS or preprocessors like LESS/SASS). - Clean, testable code: write readable, maintainable, well-tested code in reviewable increments. - Cloud curiosity: exposure to or willingness to learn AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation. - Collaborative, pragmatic mindset: communicate clearly, ask questions early, care about user impact.
