Full Stack Engineer Kotlin & React (Maternity Cover) / Lounge by Zalando (all genders)

Role Lounge by Zalando is an online shopping club for fashion and lifestyle products, serving millions of members across 20+ European markets through daily, time-limited sale campaigns. The Growth & Lifecycle team is the growth engine of Lounge, building services that communicate compelling offers to users. We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer on a 12-month fixed-term basis to focus on our Kotlin Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) and its React frontend, which composes personalised, dynamic landing pages. Responsibilities - Build and maintain features across the Kotlin BFF and React frontend, delivering testable, maintainable code to production. - Contribute to both backend composition logic and frontend experience for personalised landing pages. - Collaborate with frontend and backend engineers, product managers, and designers to turn requirements into seamless user experiences. - Implement personalisation, targeting, and A/B testing features. - Deploy and operate services in a cloud-first environment (AWS), including on-call practices. - Participate in code and design reviews and expand technical skills. Qualifications - 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience. - Proficiency in building backend services (ideally in Kotlin, or Java/JVM languages with interest in Kotlin). - Experience with modern frontends using React and the JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem (ES6, Webpack/Vite, CSS/LESS/SASS). - Ability to write readable, maintainable, and well-tested code. - Exposure to or willingness to learn AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation. - Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic mindset.
