About this role

Role: The Demand Data & Analytics, Planning, Steering, and Performance Measurement Team monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of online and offline marketing campaigns to deepen understanding of customer development and inform short‑ and long‑term marketing strategy. As a Senior Applied Scientist you will drive scientific research to solve complex business problems, removing uncertainty in marketing budget steering through rigorous experimentation. Your primary mission is to establish Incrementality Testing as the ground truth for validating and calibrating Media Mix Models. Responsibilities: - Innovate on MMM Architecture by developing custom solutions that account for Flash Sales dynamics, time‑varying coefficients, and stock constraints for high‑precision forecasting. - Drive the Causal Inference & Incrementality roadmap, designing and leading Geo‑Lift and Incrementality tests as the definitive ground truth for Media Mix Models. - Establish validation excellence by implementing out‑of‑sample validation, Bayesian calibration, and multicollinearity diagnostics before models influence multi‑million‑euro budget decisions. - Master large‑scale data environments using AWS (S3, Redshift) and Databricks to engineer complex features and process high‑velocity datasets. - Bridge science and strategy by managing technical relationships with external MMM partners, challenging methodologies, and translating causal inference outputs into actionable marketing investment recommendations. - Act as an expert of marketing data science, staying up‑to‑date with trends and providing guidance across the business. Qualifications: - Master's degree in a data‑driven scientific field such as Statistics, Econometrics, Machine Learning, or Mathematics. - Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a SaaS or consultancy setting, tackling marketing measurement challenges (MMM, incrementality testing, geo‑testing, conversion lift studies). - Deep expertise in causal inference, Bayesian statistics, and experimental design. - Strong technical proficiency with Python or R for scientific computing and advanced SQL for data extraction from Redshift; familiarity with Databricks and Tableau is a plus. - Business savvy with the ability to translate technical results for non‑experts and work backwards from customer/business problems. - Quick thinking, proactive attitude, adaptability in a fast‑paced environment, and ability to work independently. What We Offer: - Employee shares program. - 40% discount on fashion and beauty products sold by Zalando, 30% off Zalando Lounge, plus external partner discounts. - Two paid volunteering days per year. - Hybrid working model with up to 60% remote work. - Opportunity to work from abroad up to 30 days per year. - 27 days of vacation per year (starting). - Relocation assistance (subject to agreement). - Family services, health and wellbeing options (including Gympass), and mental health support. - Development opportunities through training platforms and bi‑annual peer‑to‑peer reviews.
