Senior Data Engineer - Marketing Platform (all genders)

Role - Join Zalando Marketing Services (ZMS), the advertising and marketing platform for merchants and brands, building a platform that powers campaign creation decisions for thousands of merchants across multiple markets. Responsibilities - Design and implement data systems that power campaign decisions. - Take end‑to‑end ownership of projects in a cross‑functional team and iterate quickly during product development. - Lead data‑engineering competency development within the Marketing platform and mentor colleagues. - Evaluate and adopt leading‑edge technologies, optimise platform performance and ensure scalability. - Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders and engineering peers. - Build and maintain data solutions using Databricks, Delta Lake, Postgres and Airflow, including performance tuning and observability. Qualifications - 5–7 years of professional experience in data engineering. - Deep knowledge of distributed data processing (Databricks/Spark preferred) and performance tuning. - Strong programming skills in a general‑purpose language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, Go) and SQL focused on data transformation performance. - Proven experience designing, building and evolving data models and processing systems. - Experience with storage optimisation, cloud delivery models and Kubernetes is a plus. - Ability to mentor team members and promote engineering excellence. - Nice‑to‑have: experience with dbt, API design, real‑time streaming pipelines, and operational excellence in production environments.
