Senior Developer (f/m/d)
About this role
We help the world run better. At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we’ll bring out the best in you. We’re builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what’s next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You’ll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What’s in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.
What you’ll build
- Design, implement, and maintain backend services in Java using modern frameworks like Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Data.
- Build and optimize data persistence layers, integrating with PostgreSQL, SAP HANA, and other SQL‑based systems.
- Develop and expose robust APIs (REST, OData, GraphQL) and event‑driven components.
- Work with cloud‑native deployments on platforms such as SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Ensure code quality through unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing, following best practices for logging, monitoring, and observability (e.g., JUnit, Kibana, Dynatrace).
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams in an agile environment to design maintainable, well‑documented, and secure backend systems.
What you bring
- Extensive experience in backend development with Java (preferable with Java 11+); familiarity with Kotlin is a plus.
- Proven track record in developing production‑grade applications using Spring Boot and related Spring ecosystem frameworks.
- Strong understanding of databases, including relational modeling, query optimization, and experience with PostgreSQL and SAP HANA.
- Experience designing and consuming APIs and working with asynchronous/event‑based architectures.
- Solid understanding of cloud‑native architectures and deployment models (SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, Docker).
- Proficiency in test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
- Excellent communication skills in English and German.
Nice to have
- Experience with Amazon S3, message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Solace), or infrastructure‑as‑code tooling.
- Familiarity with enterprise‑grade authentication/authorization concepts (OAuth2, XSUAA, etc.).
- Ideally, you already have experience leveraging AI or GenAI technologies – either to support your development workflows or as part of implemented AI‑driven use cases.
Where you belong
In our team, you’ll feel real impact — our solutions are used by more than half of all SAP employees. We’re small, collaborative, and value every voice. You’ll quickly take ownership of topics end‑to‑end. We work flexibly from wherever we’re most productive.
