Senior Machine Learning Engineer (all genders)

Role: Senior Machine Learning Engineer in Zalando Marketing Services (ZMS) Tech, responsible for building and scaling data pipelines and machine learning infrastructure for the Ads Personalization platform. Responsibilities: - Design, architecture, and development of end‑to‑end data engineering and MLOps solutions on cloud infrastructure (AWS, Databricks, Kubernetes). - Build high‑throughput, low‑latency streaming pipelines using Apache Flink (Java) and Spark (Python) to feed the central Hopsworks Feature Store. - Operationalize model serving and maintain real‑time inference sponsored prediction and ad candidate retrieval systems. - Collaborate with Applied Scientists, Software Engineers, Product Managers and Designers to optimize data quality, model performance and latency. - Ensure operational excellence through CI/CD pipelines, continuous monitoring and automated alerting for large‑scale distributed systems. - Communicate roadmaps and automate experimentation‑to‑production workflows. Qualifications: - Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Significant hands‑on experience designing, building and maintaining high‑throughput, low‑latency streaming applications; strong knowledge of Apache Flink and Spark. - Professional experience with MLOps and model serving (e.g., Triton, SageMaker), data version control and workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Databricks workflows). - Strong programming skills in Java and/or Python; familiarity with ML libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus. - Experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines and establishing metrics and monitoring for large‑scale distributed systems. - Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring engineers and collaborating with applied scientists.
