U-Bahn services in Berlin have so far been 98,6 percent reliable in 2026, according to a recent report from the local public transport association Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).

Berlin U-Bahn is highly reliable

Since the beginning of 2026, the reliability of U-Bahn trains in Berlin has increased from 93 percent to 98,6 percent. This means that 98,6 percent of services operated according to schedule.

The BVG, Berlin’s local transport association, is putting the increased reliability down to a new model of U-Bahn, which hit the tracks in September 2025. “We have managed to reverse a trend and are stablising services one step at a time,” BVG boss Henrik Falk said in a press release.

“Now, it’s about raising quality to a new level in a sustainable way,” Falk continued. After an average reliability rate of nearly 94 percent during 2025, if disruption caused by industrial action is not considered, the transport association is aiming for an average reliability rate of 99 percent for 2026.

New Berlin U-Bahn model coming in May

In its 2025 reliability assessment, the BVG cited old train carriages as a major cause of delays and disruptions. The local transport association sent a new train model, the JK, onto the tracks in September last year. 130 of the 140 trains purchased are now in operation, mainly on the U1, U2, U3 and U4 lines.

In May, another new carriage model, the J model, will be rolled out and operate on the U5 and U9 lines. The transport association has ordered a total of 236 J-model carriages, 170 of which will begin operating in 2026.
