From mid-June, young people in Germany will be able to claim a BahnCard25 for free and get 25 percent off long-distance train journeys.
BahnCard25 free for kids until September
With air fares rising, Deutsche Bahn is regularly announcing new discount schemes to encourage more people to travel by long-distance train this summer.
One of the latest announcements is a discount for young people. From mid-June until September, all six to 18-year-olds will be able to get a BahnCard25 for free.
The BahnCard25 entitles the holder to 25 percent off long-distance train tickets. A subscription usually costs 7,90 euros per month.
Don’t children travel for free on the ICE and IC anyway?
While Deutsche Bahn is eager to advertise its new discount schemes, certain groups of children can already travel for free on the national rail operator’s long-distance trains.
All children up to five years old can travel for free. Children between six and 14 years old can also travel for free; however, they must be accompanied by someone aged 15 or over, and the child should be officially added to this person’s booking.
For this reason, it is mainly young people aged 15 to 18 who will benefit from the free BahnCard25 scheme.
