If you were planning on travelling by bus at all this Christmas, you need to start looking into alternatives: FlixBus has announced that it is cancelling all of its services over the next four weeks. Customers will get their money back.

No more FlixBus trips in 2020

Following Germany’s decision to impose tough new lockdown measures, FlixBus has announced that it will not offer any trips between December 17 and January 11. Any customers who have already booked a trip will be contacted and will receive a refund, the long-distance bus operator said on Tuesday.

Customers will also receive a FlixBus voucher worth 15 euros for a trip in the coming year, to apologise for the inconvenience. “The company is reacting to the decision by the State Premiers’ conference to implement a new nationwide lockdown,” FlixBus said.

FlixBus had planned to restart services on December 17

The company had already temporarily ceased operations on November 3 due to new coronavirus restrictions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They had planned to resume operations to more than 150 destinations in the lead-up to the Christmas holidays and into the New Year, but these plans have now been taken off the table.

"Please refrain from any travel that is not absolutely necessary,” said FlixBus managing director André Schwämmlein.
