Everyone is excited about Berlin’s new 29-euro ticket, which will be available in October, November and December while the federal government sorts out plans for the nationwide 49-euro ticket - but some people are not sure exactly how to get one.
In this article I’ll walk you through the whole process of buying the new 29-euro ticket via the BVG website.
The new discounted ticket is valid for unlimited travel in the A and B zones of Berlin for just 29 euros per month. This ticket will be helpful for many trying to cope with the high cost of living we are now seeing in Europe.
But here is the catch! You can’t buy this ticket at the train station - you can only get one online by applying for a subscription and entering your bank account details.
If you’ve already got a subscription, your monthly payment will automatically be discounted to 29 euros for the next three months. If you don’t have a subscription, you need to head to the BVG website to start the process.
From the BVG homepage, select “Abo” in the top menu. You need to then select one of the following subscriptions to get your ticket:

On the next page, you need to answer a few questions. Make sure the fare zone displayed under “Wo bist du unterwegs?” (Where are you travelling) is Berlin AB, and then select your desired start month. The sooner you start, the more use you can make of the ticket (remember the offer expires at the end of December).
You then need to choose whether you want to pay monthly (monatlich) or annually (jährlich). Paying annually is cheaper. The payment breakdown at the bottom of the page will show you how much you need to pay upfront.
Then click the “Weiter zur Bestellung” button to proceed.

Then you need to tick the consent box to allow BVG to take the money from your account and click the yellow “Weiter zur Bestellübersicht” button.
This final page allows you to review the order (if you don’t already have a BVG account, you’ll need to create one with an email address and password). The ticket will be sent to your email address. You’ll need to print it out and make sure to carry an ID with you when riding public transport. You also need to write your name on your printed ticket.
