The MVG has announced that passengers should expect widespread disruption across the U-Bahn network in Munich in October and November. Here’s what you should know:

MVG warns of severe transport disruption in coming weeks

Modernisation and fire safety construction works across Munich’s transport network mean U-Bahn services will be severely disrupted in October, the MVG has announced.

Fewer nighttime services have been running on the U4 and U5 lines since October 12, and restrictions will continue until November 6. From Sundays to Thursdays, from 10.30pm U4 services will only run between Arabellapark and Lehel. U5 services will only run between Hauptbahnhof and Karlsplatz (Stachus) and only every 20 minutes.

Construction work at Hauptbahnhof, scheduled to begin in November 2025 and finish in November 2026, will also restrict further services. Starting November 9 until March 5, U1 and U2 services after 10.30pm will only run every 20 minutes.

On six weekends between October 24 and December 1, the U2 and U8 lines will not stop at Theresienstraße and Königsplatz. The U2 will only run between Feldmoching and Josephsplatz, then Messestadt Ost and Hauptbahnhof. On affected Saturdays, the U8 will only run between Hauptbahnhof and Neuperlach Zentrum.

MVG recommends alternative transport routes

The public transport association has recommended that passengers avoid the U3 line between Scheidplatz and Sendlinger Tor and instead take the trams number 27 and 28.

While public transport disruptions will increase in the coming weeks, road works will clear up. From the beginning of December, the arterial Augustenstraße in central Munich will reopen to drivers.
