In an attempt to ease the pressure on the healthcare system, Charité, the university hospital in Berlin, has developed an app that will help people decide whether to get tested for the coronavirus.

Charité’s “CovApp”

The web-based “CovApp” asks users to answer a questionnaire regarding their current symptoms, travel history and contact with other people. After users have completed the questionnaire they will receive recommendations on what actions they should take. The app also gives information on how to reduce one's own risk of infection.

The app, which was developed in cooperation with Data4Life and funded by the Hasso Plattner Foundation, does not provide any diagnostic services; rather, it helps to better asses whether you need to see a doctor or test for the virus.

The answers from the questionnaire can be set to Charité via a QR code that is anonymised and is processed and saved on the user's device.
