In the very north of Germany, an island called Oland sits just off the western coast. Check out this video to find out more about the “land defying the ocean.”

Oland: the land defying the ocean

The island of Oland is an example of what is known as a hallig, a small island without a protective dyke. The island is constantly under threat of flooding, but that doesn’t stop 16 people, according to an unofficial 2019 estimate, from making it their home. Check out the video below to find out more about this fascinating island and its inhabitants.
