Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt takes place each year at the end of October in Frankfurt. This year, the festival celebrates its 70th birthday!

The oldest jazz festival in Germany

Established in 1953, Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt is the oldest jazz festival in Germany and not only that, but it is also the oldest continuous jazz festival in the whole world. In the 1980s, Hesse broadcasting corporation (Hessischer Rundfunk) took over the organisation of the festival and since then it has been extremely widely broadcast, reaching wider audiences than ever.

The festival attracts jazz greats from across Germany and from all corners of the world. Meanwhile, the hr big band (the jazz big band of the Hesse broadcasting corporation) has been the festival's resident ensemble for many years. The main festival location is the broadcasting hall of the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt.
