Quaranvino is a great way to socialise and learn about wine without leaving home. Whether you're social distancing, or life just makes going out complicated, it's an easy way to bring the entertainment right to your home.
Quaranvino works with boutique wineries to create events that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home - alone, with your partner or even with friends.
Here's a short video explaining how Quaranvino works:
Three dinners with boutique wine producers
After a number of events with Italian wineries, Quaranvino has decided to head south and in July will organise a series of three dinners with some of South Africa's top boutique wine producers:
July 11 - Kevin Grant of Ataraxia
After 30 vintages, Kevin describes himself no longer as a wine-maker or vine-grower but rather a “soil farmer”. He sees it is as his role to assist nature and the terroir to express its best possible result. The Quaranvino team is totally enchanted by his poeticism.
July 18 - Thomas Webb of Thelema Mountain Vineyard
Thomas’ father bought the Thelema vineyards in Stellenbosch at the beginning of the 1980s and quickly created one of the region’s best-known quality wineries. Thomas is full of stories, is super easy-going and is sure to have an answer to any question you can throw at him about wine and South Africa.
July 25 - Mary Lou Nash of Black Pearl Wines
Mary Lou AKA The Mischief Maker (you’ll get it when you meet her!) is a self-taught wine-maker who runs this one-woman-show winery on the slopes of the Paarl mountain. You’ll love her energy and the playful glint in her eye.
Sign up, receive the wines and recipes, and log on to share a fun experience
Quaranvino sends you a selection of wines to your home (2 or 3 per winery depending on the package), along with authentic recipes and a link to join the dinner dates.
Wines can be shipped anywhere in the EU so friends in other countries can join too, to share a fun experience despite the distance. Chat-room moments mean that you can socialise with other diners and catch up with friends during and after the dinner.
Sign up for Quaranvino. If you can’t make the dinner appointments, no problem - you’ll still get access to the recipes and an audio recording of the dinner event so you can catch up at your own pace.
Tickets are limited and start at 125 euros for the three events (no matter how many people in your household participate!) That includes:
- Access to all three events, which are private, closed events.
- Six or nine bottles of wines depending on the package you choose.
- Shipment within Germany.*
- Suggested authentic recipes for each of the wines.
- The chance to meet and mix with the wine producers and wine lovers from across Europe.
- Special end-of-series discount on all wines via the Quaranvino pop-up web shop.
- Feel-good factor - by participating in Quaranvino, you're supporting the South African wine industry. Each box also includes a donation to provide essential nutritional muffins for school children in the Western cape area via the Lebenslinien project. Double whammy.
* Shipment possible to any country in the EU (except Sweden and Finland) for a small supplement. Please select when making your order.

About Quaranvino
Quaranvino was created at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis when its organisers could no longer host wine-makers’ dinners. Their wine-loving friends were desperate for entertainment during what looked to be long and empty weeks. Quaranvino evenings got them through!
Having a series of events gave them something to look forward to - they really got into the theme of each series and met people they would see the following weeks. The series format meant it was an efficient way of shopping and didn't force participants to order more wine than they would want to drink.
Wine-makers weren’t able to travel to share their stories and passion for their craft and so were only too happy to host dinners with wine lovers. Since March, Quaranvino has hosted 15 online dinners with some of Italy’s leading wineries and is now super excited about bringing this concept to South Africa, a country whose wine industry faces huge challenges.
Quaranvino was created by event organisers, rather than wine retailers, so they choose wineries based on the quality of their wines and stories they share. Guests and producers love this format and it’s sure to continue, even after distancing measures have been eased.
