Two unprepared, young hikers who used TikTok to plan a walking trip in the Allgäu Alps have been collected by mountain rescue services.
TikTok hikers set off unprepared
Mountain rescue services had to save two hikers who used TikTok to plan a hike in the German Alps near Allgäu and set off without the necessary experience or equipment for the demanding journey.
The pair were rescued from a snowy area around 2.000 metres above sea level and close to the Austrian border on Saturday evening. Afraid to continue their 18-kilometre journey along the Jubiläumsweg walkway to Schrecksee, they decided to call mountain rescue services, who used a helicopter to take the pair to a rescue station.
Inexperienced hikers must pay rescue fee
At this time of year, mountain rescuers warn that winter weather conditions have already arrived along hiking trails higher than 1.600 metres. As a result, only experienced mountaineers are advised to undertake such journeys.
Because they set off without the required experience and equipment, the young pair have now been saddled with a bill to cover the costs of their dramatic rescue. Unless they are already paying into an insurance plan that covers such situations, they will have to pay up front.
