Swiss chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli has announced that it will no longer sell its products in German discount supermarkets Aldi and Lidl.
Lindt will be removed from Aldi and Lidl
Speaking to Die Zeit, Lindt & Sprüngli CEO Adalbert Lechner has announced that the Swiss chocolate manufacturer will no longer sell its products in Aldi and Lidl.
“Otherwise, we will end up with more and more discounts devaluing our brand,” Adalbert told the newspaper. Currently, Aldi and Lidl sell discounted Lindt products in exchange for placing the Lindt products in a special and more noticeable spot in supermarkets.
Lidl, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have not released any comment about Lindt’s decision.
Chocolate is 77 percent more expensive than in 2020
In the past five years, chocolate has become more expensive to produce and much more expensive to buy. Raw cocoa prices have recently fallen slightly, but remain high.
According to YouGov, in October 2025, a bar of chocolate cost an average of 77 percent more than it did in 2020. In Lechner’s opinion, even if raw cocoa prices fall, the cost of chocolate is unlikely to fall.
