About this role
In our Logistics Engineering Technologies & Advanced Logistics team, we work at ARENA2036 on the campus of the University of Stuttgart on pioneering robotics solutions for intralogistics. As part of an ongoing research project, we are developing a flexible bin-picking system together with partners from industry and research.
As an intern on our team, you will support the operation and further development of one of our mobile robotic demonstrators. Your tasks will include:
- Operation, maintenance, and support of the demonstrator during test campaigns and demonstrations
- Extension and maintenance of the state machine orchestrating the robot's behavior
- Maintenance and improvement of the motion planning stack
- Integration of additional hardware and software components into the overall system
- Contributing to the ROS2, MQTT, and REST interfaces between the system's components
We offer you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art robotics hardware and modern software stacks in a collegial team with flexible working hours and deep insights into an innovative research project.

- Solid programming skills in Python and C++
- Practical experience with ROS2 and ideally the MoveIt motion planning framework
- Basic theoretical understanding of robotics fundamentals such as kinematics, coordinate transformations, and motion planning
- A strong interest in robotics, particularly in manipulation, bin-picking, or collaborative robotics
- Comfortable working in a Linux-based environment and familiar with Git for version control
- Familiarity with Docker and experience with state machines is a plus
- Familiarity with MQTT, REST APIs, or robot visualization tooling (e.g., RViz) is a plus
- Hands-on experience with cobots, depth cameras, AGV platforms, or grippers from previous projects is a plus, but not required
- Very good communication skills in English; German is a strong plus but not required
- Team player with a hands-on mindset
