Marine Geophysicist – Geophysical & UXO Surveys (m/f/d)
About this role
Your responsibilities
As Marine Geophysicist Geophysical & UXO Surveys, you are responsible for the planning, execution, and quality control of offshore geophysical survey campaigns with a strong focus on geophysical site investigations and UXO surveys. You ensure high data quality, proper system configuration, and reliable interpretation results to support offshore construction, cable routing, wind farm development, and subsea infrastructure projects. The role focuses on integrated geophysical and UXO survey operations, including magnetic and hydroacoustic systems. Experience with ultra-high-resolution (UUHR) multi-channel seismic surveys is considered beneficial.
Geophysical & UXO Survey Operations
- Plan and execute offshore geophysical site surveys with a strong focus on UXO detection and clearance support
- Configure and supervise magnetic survey systems (gradiometers, magnetometers) for UXO investigations
- Ensure correct deployment, calibration, positioning, and performance monitoring of survey equipment
- Oversee acquisition of MBES, SSS, SBP, and magnetic data
- Support vessel teams during mobilization, demobilization, and offshore survey campaigns
- Monitor acquisition parameters to ensure compliance with project specifications, HSE standards, and UXO survey requirements
- Contribute to survey methodology design including line planning, sensor layout, and target detection optimization
Data Quality Control & Processing
- Perform real-time quality control of geophysical and magnetic datasets
- Verify navigation accuracy, sensor offsets, layback calculations, and acquisition parameters
- Conduct processing of magnetic and hydroacoustic datasets for UXO target detection
- Apply filtering, noise attenuation, and target enhancement techniques
- Support interpretation workflows for anomaly classification and target prioritization
- Prepare processed datasets and preliminary interpretation outputs for internal and client reporting
Geophysical Interpretation & Reporting
- Interpret magnetic and hydroacoustic datasets for UXO target identification and seabed characterization
- Classify magnetic anomalies and support target risk assessment
- Identify seabed features and shallow subsurface structures relevant to offshore construction
- Produce charts, target lists, GIS products, and integrated geophysical reports
- Support clients and project teams with geophysical expertise during survey planning and execution
Integrated Offshore Survey Support
- Contribute to integrated offshore site investigation campaigns combining geophysical, hydroacoustic systems
- Support continuous improvement of survey procedures and processing workflows
- Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, and project teams to ensure consistent data quality across different survey methods
Your profile
- Degree in Geophysics, Marine Geology, Geosciences, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in marine geophysics with strong involvement in offshore geophysical and/or UXO surveys
- Proven experience with magnetic acquisition systems for UXO detection
- Solid knowledge of magnetic data processing and anomaly interpretation
- Experience in offshore vessel-based survey operations
- Ability to troubleshoot acquisition systems and optimize survey performance
- Experience supporting offshore construction, cable route surveys, or wind farm developments
- Offshore certifications (e.g., BOSIET, offshore medical) are advantageous
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); German is an advantage
- Willingness to travel and participate in offshore survey campaigns
