Marine Geophysicist – Offshore Site Surveys (m/f/d)
About this role
Your responsibilities
As Marine Geophysicist Offshore Site Surveys, you are responsible for the planning, execution, and quality control of offshore geophysical surveys with a particular focus on ultra-high-resolution (UUHR) multi-channel seismic data acquisition and interpretation. You ensure that survey systems are configured correctly, data quality meets project specifications, and that geophysical results support engineering, site investigation, and offshore development activities. The role focuses on UUHR multi-channel seismic surveys as a core competency, while also supporting integrated offshore site survey campaigns involving additional acoustic and geophysical methods such as MBES, SSS, SBP, and magnetic surveys.
Geophysical Survey Operations
- Plan and execute offshore geophysical site surveys with a focus on UUHR multi-channel seismic acquisition
- Configure and supervise seismic acquisition systems including sources, streamers, navigation, and recording systems
- Ensure correct deployment, calibration, and alignment of seismic sensors and acquisition equipment
- Support vessel teams during mobilization, demobilization, and offshore survey operations
- Monitor acquisition parameters and ensure compliance with survey specifications, operational procedures, and safety standards
Data Quality Control & Processing
- Perform real-time and post-acquisition quality control of geophysical data
- Verify data integrity, navigation accuracy, and acquisition parameters
- Conduct basic to intermediate seismic data processing, including:
- Geometry definition
- Filtering and noise attenuation
- Deconvolution
- Velocity analysis
- Stacking and migration for high-resolution datasets
- Prepare processed datasets and preliminary seismic sections for internal and client use
Geophysical Interpretation & Reporting
- Interpret high-resolution seismic data for shallow subsurface characterization
- Identify geological features relevant to offshore engineering, subsea infrastructure, and site investigation projects
- Produce geophysical interpretation products, including seismic profiles, maps, and integrated survey reports
- Support project teams with geophysical expertise during survey planning and execution
Integrated Survey Support
- Support the planning and execution of integrated offshore survey campaigns involving multiple geophysical and hydroacoustic systems
- Contribute to surveys using Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES), Side Scan Sonar (SSS), Sub-Bottom Profiler (SBP), and magnetic survey systems when required
- Apply basic understanding of magnetic measurements in the context of UXO detection and site investigation
- Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, and project teams to ensure consistent data quality across different survey methods
Your profile
- Degree in Geophysics, Marine Geology, Geosciences, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in marine geophysics, particularly in offshore site investigation or geophysical survey operations
- Strong experience with high-resolution or ultra-high-resolution seismic systems, including acquisition and interpretation
- Solid understanding of offshore survey environments and vessel-based operations
- Knowledge of additional survey methods such as MBES, SSS, SBP, and magnetic surveys is beneficial
- Basic understanding of magnetic data acquisition and interpretation related to UXO detection is an advantage
- Experience working with seismic processing and interpretation software
- Ability to troubleshoot acquisition systems and optimize survey performance
- Experience supporting or participating in offshore survey campaigns
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex technical environments
- Ability to work collaboratively across survey, engineering, and project teams
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); German is an advantage
- Willingness to travel and participate in offshore mobilizations and survey campaigns
Your benefits
- Training & Development: Extensive learning and development opportunities, both in-person and digital.
