Senior Principal Software Engineer - Logistics Capabilities (all genders) LS

Role: Senior Principal Software Engineer in Zalando's Logistics Capabilities team. Lead design and evolution of logistics platforms, own full development lifecycle for large‑scale mission‑critical systems. Responsibilities: - Architect and evolve logistics platforms, creating robust, scalable microservice architectures for warehouse and transportation operations. - Drive innovation with automation, robotics and AI‑driven tools to improve fulfilment centre efficiency. - Define migration readiness and technical health, develop migration strategy for warehouse systems. - Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the logistics domain. - Manage and execute multiple high‑impact technical initiatives from concept to delivery. - Foster cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, engineers and operational stakeholders. Qualifications: - Extensive experience designing, building and operating complex, large‑scale distributed systems. - Deep expertise in software architecture patterns (distributed systems, event‑driven, REST). - Strong proficiency with JVM‑based languages (Java, Kotlin, Scala), cloud‑native development (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) and relational databases (PostgreSQL). - Proven technical leadership, ability to guide teams through complex projects. - Strategic and hands‑on mindset with ability to define long‑term technical vision. - Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder influencing skills.
