Position Summary
This position is part of the Finance Department overseeing the EMEA region and is responsible for financial closing, audit coordination, and group reporting, as well as supporting subsidiary management and process improvement initiatives.
Beyond day-to-day accounting operations, the role requires a holistic view of accounting and finance processes, contributing to issue resolution from a management perspective and participating in cross-functional projects. Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes for the German entity and the consolidation of European subsidiaries.
- Prepare annual financial statements and perform closing adjustments in accordance with HGB (German GAAP).
- Conduct financial reporting to the parent company and group entities under IFRS standards.
- Provide accounting support and review activities for multiple foreign branches.
- Review and consolidate financial data from European subsidiaries.
- Collect, validate, and adjust financial information required for group consolidation.
- Coordinate and manage external audits with auditors (Wirtschaftsprüfer).
- Prepare and review audit-related documentation and financial reports in both German and English.
- Support corporate tax, transfer pricing, and VAT matters for German and foreign entities.
- Guide, review, and support staff responsible for AP, AR, General Ledger, and other accounting functions.
- Prepare budgets and forecasts and conduct variance analyses.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, closing procedures, internal controls, and J-SOX compliance processes.
- Drive standardization, automation, and continuous improvement of accounting operations.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors.
- Report financial issues and risks to the reporting manager.
Must Have
- Practical experience in accounting and finance operations in Germany.
- Proven experience leading monthly and annual closing processes.
- Solid working knowledge of HGB (German GAAP) and IFRS.
- Experience dealing with external auditors (Wirtschaftsprüfer).
- Experience managing General Ledger and Balance Sheet accounts.
- Ability to prepare and review financial and accounting documents in both German and English.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with overseas offices and headquarters in English.
- Hands-on experience with Excel and ERP systems.
- Strong sense of ownership with the ability to work independently.
- Willingness to remain hands-on while supporting team members.
- Proactive mindset toward process improvement and operational excellence.
Nice to Have
- Experience with group consolidation and/or Group Accounting.
- Experience preparing IFRS reporting packages for overseas parent companies.
- Experience in trading companies, manufacturing, steel, or logistics industries.
- Experience managing subsidiaries across Europe.
- Post-Merger Integration (PMI) experience following M&A activities.
- Experience with ERP implementation or migration projects.
- Accounting qualifications such as Bilanzbuchhalter or equivalent.
- Experience with inventory accounting and trading company-specific accounting treatments.
- Basic knowledge of VAT, corporate tax, and transfer pricing.
- Team leadership and/or staff management experience.
