Engineering Manager - Content Team

Role: Engineering Manager of the Content team, leading six engineers responsible for content displayed on Zalando's advertisement platform (organic and sponsored), owning the look and feel of formats (Boards, Landing Pages, Ads) and the Content Workspace tooling. Responsibilities: - Lead, coach and mentor a high‑performing engineering team, fostering ownership, psychological safety and continuous learning. - Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to shape and deliver the technical roadmap and translate business requirements into scalable solutions. - Provide product ownership and insight, influencing technical strategy and prioritisation. - Define and enforce engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies and quality practices. - Oversee architecture, conduct reviews and contribute hands‑on to code when needed. - Recruit, structure and retain talent, establishing effective team rituals and process improvements. Qualifications: - Proven leadership experience in a fast‑paced engineering environment. - Strong full‑stack software engineering background (React, Node.js, Kotlin/Java) with knowledge of mobile development a plus. - Expertise in modern architecture patterns (micro‑services, event‑driven, REST/OpenAPI), AWS and containerisation. - Hands‑on mentality, able to engage in architecture reviews and complex technical decisions. - Business acumen to translate technical debt and infrastructure needs into clear value. - Excellent communication skills in English.
