Engineering Manager - ZEOS Portal (all genders)

Role The Engineering Manager for the ZEOS Portal leads a cross‑functional team of up to 10 engineers (frontend and backend) to build a seamless, high‑performance B2B portal that serves as the single point of entry for Zalando partners. The role collaborates closely with UX designers, Product Managers and Principal Engineers to ensure modularity, security and performance across the stack. Responsibilities - Lead Full‑Stack Strategy: shape a scalable, modular portal architecture across frontend and backend layers. - Empower and Grow Talent: hire, mentor and develop a diverse team of engineers, balancing rapid delivery with high‑quality standards. - Bridge Design and Engineering: translate user needs into technical roadmaps together with Product and UX leads. - Own the Portal Infrastructure: oversee backend services, deployments, scalability, uptime and data flows, as well as frontend performance and CI/CD. - Champion Operational Health: take full ownership of portal stability, monitoring, security (Okta/OpenID) and SEO‑friendly architecture. - Navigate Architectural Choices: guide decisions on Micro Frontends, service design, SPA performance and API architecture. - Foster Smooth Delivery: drive Agile best practices, remove blockers and align cross‑functional stakeholders on roadmap and releases. Qualifications - Proven People Leader with 5+ years managing engineering teams and building high‑trust cultures. - Full‑Stack Portal Expert with strong experience in modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, Node.js) and backend systems (Java/Kotlin, databases, messaging). - Platform & Infrastructure Owner experienced in designing and operating backend services, REST APIs and cloud‑native deployments (AWS/Kubernetes). - Cross‑Functional Technical Leader comfortable making trade‑offs across the full stack. - Quality & Operations Focused with a DevOps mindset, emphasizing build times, automated testing and reliability. - User‑Centric Perspective passionate about delivering value to customers. - Empowering Guide who balances strategic vision with hands‑on technical leadership.
