Platform Engineering Expert (m/f/d)
About this role
We help the world run better. At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Join an innovative, collaborative development environment and help shape secure data access and connectivity capabilities as part of SAP’s Big Data Fabric Services (BDFS). We are looking for a Platform Engineering Expert to help shape the next generation of SAP Datam Accelerator and related BDFS platform capabilities across architecture, engineering execution, and production readiness. We do not work as data scientists analyzing or extracting data directly. We build the platform capabilities that make this possible.
THE PRODUCT
SAP Data Accelerator focuses on secure partner connectivity and access to SAP business data across SAP ERP and LoB applications in on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud landscapes. This work sits within the broader BDFS portfolio, which enables SAP Lines of Business and customers to enter the world of big data more easily. BDFS delivers platform capabilities such as Apache Spark as a service, multi-language data processing on Kubernetes-based infrastructure, and access to hyperscaler-agnostic data sources using the Delta Sharing protocol on top of the HANA Data Lake File Service (HDLFS). As the product evolves through future phases, the scope expands from secure connectivity into broader API-driven and platform-managed data access capabilities.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Platform Engineering Expert, you will contribute across design, coding, testing, operability, and quality assurance in a development team, while also helping shape architecture and technical direction. You will assess and solve issues in new or existing code and work with high attention to detail, reliability, and efficiency. You will collaborate closely with your team members and stakeholders to ensure success. In your day-to-day, your tasks will be:
- Work on design, coding, and quality assurance tasks related to strategic product capabilities
- Drive platform decisions that balance security, scalability, operability, and product evolution across current and future phases
- Development activities in Java, Python, and Go, with Rust as a plus
- Work in an agile team that uses the Scrum framework to self-organize and work towards development goals
- Mentor and guide the team to foster professional development and engineering excellence
- Support the team on technical discussions, architecture topics, and platform direction
- Help build PoCs, evaluate technical options, and drive important engineering decisions

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
By joining our team, you will help shape platform capabilities that evolve from current connectivity scenarios toward broader API-driven and storage-backed data access scenarios. You will work on high-impact engineering topics spanning platform architecture, security, scale, observability, and operational excellence. You will collaborate with strong engineers across BDFS and adjacent SAP platform areas. You will influence how secure enterprise data access capabilities are built for hybrid SAP landscapes over the next project phases.
