Senior Applied Scientist / Lounge by Zalando (all genders)

Role: As a Senior Applied Scientist at Zalando Lounge, you will foster data‑driven decision‑making by designing experimentation frameworks and analysing complex A/B tests. You will tackle causal inference problems, statistical modelling, and collaborate with economists, data analysts, product managers, software developers, data engineers and commercial stakeholders. Responsibilities: - Design experimentation frameworks in new areas (KPIs, randomisation units, power analysis, variance reduction). - Design and execute experiments in complex cases, handling SUTVA violations and long‑term effect considerations. - Identify causal relationships using observational data to inform product development. - Apply economic modelling and first‑principles thinking to guide business decisions. - Provide scientific feedback to peers and coach junior colleagues. Qualifications: - Ph.D. in Economics. - Minimum two years of professional experience. - Expertise in experimentation and strong scientific problem‑solving skills. - Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with AI‑based analytical tools. - Ability to communicate insights to technical and non‑technical audiences. - Experience with quasi‑experimental methods (e.g., DML, causal forest, diff‑in‑diff), heterogeneous effect estimation, machine‑learning frameworks (scikit‑learn, PyTorch), and data‑engineering tools (Airflow, DBT, PySpark, Databricks, Git) is a plus.
