Senior Director Product Engineering – Fleet (m/f/d)

SIXT runs one of Europe’s largest mobility fleets on a platform that scaled with the business but hasn’t fully modernized with it — legacy elements meeting a modern cloud platform, and ~30 product surfaces accumulated rather than evolved. A structured Fleet Ops landscape assessment has set the destination and a credible path. The role of Senior Director Product Engineering – Fleet (m/f/d) is the chapter that builds it. You don’t hand the target architecture to someone else to build. You own it end-to-end — from problem framing to production reality — across product, engineering, business, and the organisational reshape it demands. You hold the pen on every strategic call: start, stop, replace, defer. That rare mandate is exactly what we’re hiring for.

YOUR ROLE AT SIXT

• Own the Transformation End-to-End: You are the executive owner of the Fleet Ops target architecture, accountable for turning it into production reality across the full lifecycle — Vehicle Creation, Purchasing, Central Fleet Ops, Logistics, and Fleet Steering & Analytics.
• Hold the Pen on Strategy: You sequence the roadmap across teams, sign off or redirect every investment on architectural fit, and arbitrate trade-offs when teams or markets pull in different directions. Every strategic call is yours, recorded in writing and traceable to the target.
• Stand Up the Architecture — and Keep It Honest: You build the canonical data and event backbone the target depends on, collapse ~30 fragmented surfaces into a small, opinionated set, and drive legacy decommissioning on a dated schedule. The target is a living artefact you pressure-test against new evidence, not a one-off deliverable.
• Lead Stakeholders and the Org Reshape: You run the strategic forums, brief the executive committee on progress and trade-offs, and partner with lifecycle business owners and country GMs — standing up capability-aligned, end-to-end teams with named accountable leaders.

YOUR SKILLS MATTER

• Product + Engineering Depth — in One Person: Deep product judgement — problem framing, prioritisation, surface consolidation, the willingness to retire what no longer earns its place — paired with equally deep engineering credibility in system design, data and event architecture, legacy modernisation, and delivery at scale.
• Strategic Execution: You sequence multi-team roadmaps, make irreversible start/stop/replace decisions, and run a single quarterly platform roadmap under one accountable owner.
• Legacy Modernisation at Scale: You’ve migrated real systems off mainframe and legacy estates, run dated sunset plans, and shipped platform building blocks into production — not slideware.
• Executive Stakeholder Management: You hold alignment across leadership, engineering, business, and country GMs, and translate platform decisions into business language.
• Language: Fluent English required. German is a plus.
